Class IV Laser Therapy: Healing at the Cellular Level
Class IV laser therapy is one of the more useful tools to arrive in conservative care, and it is a central part of how we treat both nerve and soft tissue conditions.
What it is
Class IV describes a power classification. These lasers are considerably more powerful than the Class III units that preceded them, which means the light penetrates to deeper tissue and delivers a therapeutic dose in a much shorter session.
It is not a surgical laser. Nothing is cut. The treatment head moves across the skin and most people feel a pleasant warmth, or nothing at all.
How it works
The effect is called photobiomodulation. Specific wavelengths of light are absorbed by structures inside your cells, particularly within the mitochondria, which are the cell's energy producers.
The result is increased cellular energy production, improved local blood flow, and reduced inflammation in the treated area. In practical terms, the laser gives damaged tissue more of what it needs to repair itself, and it does so in tissue that is otherwise healing slowly because circulation there is limited.
That description covers both peripheral nerves and injured discs, which is precisely why laser features in both of our major treatment programs.
What we use it for
In our neuropathy program, laser therapy is used to stimulate repair in the small nerve fibers of the feet and to improve local circulation, alongside nerve re-education and the rest of the program.
For accident and injury patients, it is used to reduce inflammation and accelerate healing in strained muscles, injured ligaments, and irritated nerve roots. For chronic pain patients, it is often the component that finally moves a stubborn area that has not responded to anything else.
What to expect
Sessions run several minutes per area. There is no medication involved, no downtime afterward, and nothing to recover from, so it combines easily with adjustments, decompression, or therapeutic movement in the same visit.
Benefit accumulates across a course of sessions rather than arriving after one. You wear protective eyewear, the technician works the treated area, and you get up and go about your day.
Class IV laser therapy is available at all three RejuveN8 offices, in Henderson, southwest Las Vegas, and North Las Vegas. Call to find out whether it fits what you are dealing with.
